Mission

To educate faculty, staff, students, researchers, and external stakeholders on intellectual Property Rights, Objectives and Responsibilities.

Objectives

  • To raise IPR awareness among faculty, students, and researchers.
  • To guide innovators in protecting and filing their intellectual work.
  • To encourage patentable ideas through workshops and IP clinics.
  • To bring IPR into the classroom through curriculum updates.

Roles and Responsibilities

An Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell, plays a crucial role in managing and safeguarding intellectual property assets. The common roles and responsibilities of an IPR Cell include:

IPR Education and Awareness

Providing education and training to employees, students, or stakeholders about the importance of intellectual property rights and the organization's IPR policies.

IPR Policy Development

Developing and implementing an IPR policy for the organization that outlines the rules and procedures for creating, protecting, and managing intellectual property assets.

IPR Strategy

Developing an overarching IPR strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and objectives, including identifying and prioritizing intellectual property assets.

IPR Search and Documentation

  • Conducting searches and prior art analysis to determine the patentability or uniqueness of inventions and innovations.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of intellectual property assets, including Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, and Trade secrets.

Patent Filing and Maintenance

  • Preparing and filing patent applications to protect inventions.
  • Managing the maintenance and renewal of patents to ensure they remain in force.

Trademark and Copyright Management

Registering and managing trademarks and copyrights associated with the organization's products, services, and branding.

Trade Secret Protection

Establishing procedures to safeguard trade secrets, such as confidential information, processes, or formulas, from unauthorized access or disclosure.

Licensing and Commercialization

  • Exploring opportunities for licensing intellectual property to third parties and negotiating licensing agreements.
  • Identifying commercialization opportunities for the organization's intellectual property assets.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensuring that the organization complies with relevant laws and regulations related to intellectual property rights.
  • Managing and mitigating risks associated with the protection and enforcement of intellectual property.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, such as inventors, legal experts, and industry partners, to advance the organization's IPR goals.

Continual Learning and Adaptation

Staying updated on developments in intellectual property law and adjusting strategies and policies as needed.
