About the Department

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at NPR College of Engineering and Technology was started in the year 2008 under the affiliation of Anna University. The department offers Under Graduate program B.E.-ECE and Post Graduate program M.E.-VLSI Design. The department is recognized as Research Centre by Anna University, Chennai. The department’s laboratories are well equipped where need-based and demanded training has been provided. Students gain a strong theoretical understanding and practical experience in the field of efficient reliable software and hardware to meet the industrial requirements. In our department, we have 6 academic laboratories and high-speed internet (600 Mbps) to precede state of the art facilities for carrying out projects in Embedded Technology, VLSI Design, Digital Signal Processing and Wireless Communication. Exclusive Centre of Excellence for IoT and Embedded System supported by Tessolve Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore is available. Tinkering lab provides a space where individuals can explore, experiment, and create without the constraints of traditional classroom settings. The faculty members are highly qualified and dedicated. They have excellent teaching skills to develop their students with employability skills. The department of ECE received 23 University ranks in Anna University Examinations till now, recently 2022-24 batch M.E VLSI Design student secured university III rank. The department has achieved accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). This prestigious recognition reflects the unwavering commitment to excellence and dedication to upholding the highest standards in the department. The NBA accreditation is a testament to relentless pursuit of quality across all aspects of the department. The department arranges industrial training for the students to fill the gap between industry and institution through Value - Added Courses as part of the curriculum. The students are motivated to attend co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Also, they are encouraged to participate in various events like Hackathons, symposiums, and project presentations to develop their innovative and design thinking skills. Dr. M. Ameena Banu is serving as the Professor and Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NPR College of Engineering and Technology, Natham. She has over two decades of academic experience and has consistently contributed to excellence in engineering education, research, and innovation.

She completed her B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from AK College of Engineering, Krishnancoil, Srivilliputhur, affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University, in 1999. She obtained her M.E. in Communication Systems from Anna University of Technology, Tirunelveli, in 2010, and was awarded her Ph.D. by Anna University, Chennai, in 2020.

Her research interests include RF Systems, Microwave Engineering, and Wireless Communication. She has published numerous research papers in reputed National and International journals and has presented her research findings at various National and International conferences.

With more than 20 years of teaching experience, Dr. Ameena Banu has served in various academic positions including Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor at reputed engineering institutions. She has successfully guided more than 40 undergraduate projects and 5 postgraduate projects, while organizing several workshops, seminars, and orientation programmes for the academic and professional development of students.

She has authored the books "RF & Microwave Engineering", "Advanced Medical Imaging Systems", and "Intelligent Systems: An Introduction to AI". She has also been granted five patents, reflecting her commitment to research, innovation, and technological advancement.

Dr. Ameena Banu has delivered numerous guest lectures at various institutions and received the Best Project Award in State-Level Project Contests. Under her guidance, a student project was selected under the MSME 4.0 Idea Hackathon and received funding support worth ₹14.5 lakhs, demonstrating her dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

She is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and a Fellow Member of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). Through her academic leadership, research contributions, and student-centered approach, she continues to inspire future engineers to achieve professional excellence and contribute meaningfully to society.

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India’s leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT Founded in 1953. The IETE is the National Apex Professional body of Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and IT Professionals. It serves more than 1,25,000 members (including Corporate, Student and ISF members) through various 63 Centres, spread all over India and abroad.

The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence.

The core objectives of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) are to advance electro-technology, facilitate knowledge exchange in Electronics, Telecom, IT, & related fields, promote engineering education, support research & development, and develop human resources through technical programs, publications, and career development for its members and the nation.

The IETE NPRCET student chapter was established in 2022. From start of inception, the IETE student chapter has been organizing various informative and interactive activities, which includes regular technical paper presentations, technical quiz and lectures by various eminent industrialists, extension activities and workshops with the motive of imparting the latest knowledge in the fields of instrumentation and applied electronics to the students.
