About the Department

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI & DS) was established in 2022 with the vision of producing highly skilled professionals capable of addressing real-world challenges through intelligent computing and data-driven technologies. The department offers a contemporary four-year B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme under the affiliation of Anna University, providing students with a strong academic foundation in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and emerging digital technologies.

The curriculum is carefully designed to build expertise in core Artificial Intelligence concepts, including Expert Systems, Knowledge Representation, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Data Analytics, and the latest advancements in Generative AI. The programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical learning, enabling students to develop intelligent solutions for complex real-world problems across healthcare, finance, robotics, smart infrastructure, manufacturing, and other interdisciplinary domains.

The department is equipped with modern laboratories, high-performance computing facilities, advanced AI software tools, and state-of-the-art infrastructure that support experiential learning, research, innovation, and project development. Welcome to the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at NPR College of Engineering and Technology. The field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade and has emerged as a distinct and powerful offshoot of Computer Engineering.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Science have created a paradigm shift across industry, academia, and research. By training machines to learn, analyze, interpret, and make intelligent decisions, AI&DS is transforming the world at a rapid pace. This programme is designed to equip students with the skills required to analyze, interpret, and visualize data in various forms and formats, while applying knowledge of statistics, computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science using the latest tools and technologies.

The breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science have significantly influenced major sectors such as FinTech, AgriTech, Healthcare, Education, and Manufacturing. These technologies improve efficiency, support decision-making, automate complex processes, and augment human capabilities across multiple domains.

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at NPR College of Engineering and Technology began its journey in 2022 with an initial intake of 60 students, which has since increased to 120 students. The faculty and staff members of the department are committed to equipping students with expertise and proficiency in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and related technologies that are essential for success in modern society.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Science have made a significant impact on human civilization in the 21st century. They have transformed the way we work, communicate, teach, learn, and entertain ourselves. The department’s main objective is to provide experiential learning opportunities through hands-on training, research projects, internships, and project-based courses that prepare students to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and contribute to the creation of future technologies.

The research areas of the department cover a wide range of domains, including Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Big Data Analytics, and Computer Security.
